Hose was dispatched to RT 430 & I-90 to assist Brookside
at a Brush / Wild land fire. 689, 686, & 682 assisted
at the scene with equipment and manpower. Crews worked
for over 5 hours to contain a 10+ acre brush / wild land
fire.
Due to the fire's location and
access issues one lane of I-90 East Bound near exit 32
was closed for fire apparatus staging and safety. A
tender shuttle operation was set up to supply Pump 689
using 500' of 2 1/2" from 686. 689 was supplying water
to crews in the wooded are using over 900' of 1" line.
The fire was very located in an
area that sits along the ridge of Wintergreen Gorge.
Crews from Greenfield, with gear from Harborcreek
repelled to the bottom of the gorge to work on fire
containment. In the 5 hour operation a total of 10
departments assisted with manpower and equipment
containing the fire. The fire possibly started by
careless and an unattended camp fire.
