I-90 Pile Up.....

01/25 - Kuhl Hose was dispatched to assist Brookside/Harborcreek with a multi vehicle accident on Interstate 90 between Exit 32 & 35 in both the East and West bound Lanes.  Both Squad 687 & 697 along with 689 responded.  689 took the rescue equipment from Engine 683 due to it's 4 x 4 capabilities and maneuverability around the multi vehicle accident.  687 & 697 assisted with patient care and victim removal from the Interstate.  689 crew worked with Belle Valley, McKean, Harborcreek, & Erie Fire rescue crews to extricate several victims.  Initial reports were of 50+ vehicles and Tractor Trailers involved with the possibilities of the numbers reaching closer to 100 vehicles.

There were 13 patients transported to hospitals for treatment, and bus loads of stranded motorists removed from the Interstate to warming / relief shelters that were opened at Fire Stations, a church and the TA truck plaza.  One driver of a Tractor Trailer was killed when he was pinned between his Trailer and an Auto Carrier.

Multiple Fire / EMS / Police / EMA personnel assisted at the scene.  EMS units were staged from Crawford County and from  both New York, & Ohio to cover units at the accident scene as well as move up to the incident from a secondary staging area.  Fire Police assisted with traffic and Interstate closing until well after midnight.  No official numbers have been released as to the number of vehicles involved.  The multiple accidents are being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police.
