Rural Water Operations or Municipal Water
System, you pick.
A big difference between
fighting fire in a rural area compared to an urban
setting is water supply. A training session between
Kuhl Hose and Erie Fire Department #13 Engine helped to
bridge the gap between the two departments. Kuhl Hose
crews along with #13 Engine 1st Platoon participated in
a water supply drill that explained the differences in
municipal and rural water systems, and along with some
hands on training. EFD reviewed with Kuhl Hose hydrant
operations, sprinkler connections and general municipal
water supplies. Kuhl Hose reviewed with #13 rural water
movement operations including tankers, dry hydrants, jet
siphons, and drafting and supplying water.
The drill was a success because
of the cooperation and the willingness between
departments to work together as well as working toward
the goal of public safety.
