Large trash fire at landfill
Perry Hiway units were
dispatched for an unknown type fire at the Lake View
landfill, Robison Rd. East, just before 7 p.m. Shortly
after the initial dispatch Chief 420 requested 2 tankers
and manpower from Kuhl Hose, reporting large amount of
smoke in the area. There was a large trash fire at the
top of the Lake View landfill. Approximately 1/2 acre
was burning on arrival of fire department units. The
fire was started by a large piece of slab steele that
may have come from a foundry, according to landfill
employee's. The piece of steele was approximately 4' x
6' in size. Crews used 1 -1 3/4" line, Indian fighters,
rakes and had assistance from landfill employee's using
large excavating equipment and a 6000 gallon water tank
to help extinguish the fire. Crews were on scene for
just over 1 hour.
